Brett Favre Still Uncertain About Football for 2010

Brett Favre is almost 41 years old, not so old for many things but, maybe too old for the rigors of the National Football League. Favre and the Minnesota Vikings, each would love to be a part of a Super Bowl Celebration in February 2011.

The Minnesota Vikings will likely give Brett Favre all the time required to ascertain if he will be able to physically play football this NFL season. The Vikings have the makings of a Super Bowl team with one exception a Quarterback that can get them there!

Time is running out for the Minnesota Vikings to make a final push to win a Super Bowl Title. Age, injuries and cost of contracts will make this season the probable last opportunity for the current contingent of Viking football players to try and get the job done. Last year was tantilizingly close but not quite all the way to what the goal was, win the Super Bowl.

If Brett Favre can hold up physically the Minnesota Viking have a reasonable shot at the "Brass Ring". Time will tell, the first game of the 2010 season is little more than a month away. That old saying "Time & Tide Waits for No Man", The Minnesota Vikings will wait for Brett Favre!

Alex Rodriguez Hits 600th Home Run of His Career

Today Alex Rodriguez hit another home run, his 600th to be exact. I wish I could say I was happy for him and for baseball. Make no mistake I am an avid baseball fan. I have played the game coached the game and watched many a game in the past sixty years.

I have no feeling of joy for his accomplishment. The only Major League Players that are in the 600 Homer club that deserve to be there are Ruth, Aaron, Mays & Griffey. Sosa, Bonds & Rodriguez, also in that exclusive 600 plus homer elite group, used performance enhancement drugs of one type or other making their achievements meaningless in my view.

The next player with a chance to make it to 600 homers is Jim Thome with 577. Maybe he will and maybe he will not reach 600, but at least Jim Thome has not tarnished his name or the game of baseball.

Rodriguez may well break Barry Bonds record of 762. It will mean little to baseball  purests. Hank Aaron is the real home run king followed by Babe Ruth & Willie Mays.

I hope the New York Yankees are comfortable with Rodriguez in Yankee Pinstripes. Do you ever wonder why the Yankees always look to Derek Jeter as "the face of the team" and not Rodriguez? I think we all know the answer to that question!

New York Yankees Need to Trade or Release A.J. Burnett

A.J. Burnett has proven once again that the New York Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman made a poor decision to bring Burnett to the Yankees. A.J. Burnett was on the pitchers mound on Monday against his former team the Toronto Blue Jays. In true Burnett style he gave up seven runs in one inning and the yankees lost to the Blue Jays by a score of 8-6.

Six runs ought to be sufficient to win a major League Baseball game, not when A.J. Burnett is pitching. This is the second time I have gone on record as saying the Yankees need to get Burnett off their roster. The Yankees will not get back to the World Series with Burnett in the Starting rotation!

Word has leaked that Brett Favre will retire from Pro Football. The information, from an unnamed source, says that Brett Favre's ankle has not responded as well as he would have liked from off season surgery. The Minnesota Vikings will likely make an official announcement of Favre's retirement at a news conference on Tuesday, August 3rd. Brett Favre injured his ankle during the Vikings loss to the New Orleans Saints during the NFL Championship game last year.

Cooperstown, New York is a special place. I have been there on many occasions but never on the day of the annual Baseball Hall of Fame Inductions. This year Andre Dawson is the only player elected with at least 75% of the votes of the baseball sportswriters.

Jon Miller Broadcaster, Bill Madden Sportswriter, Doug Harvey Umpire and Whitey Herzog, Former St. Louis Cardinals  Manager, are the other inductees.

Willie Mays, Joe Morgan, Bob Feller, Rollie Fingers, Carlton Fisk, Frank Robinson, Johnny Bench & Al Kaline are but a few of the Baseball Immortals that are in Cooperstown this Sunday. Yogi Berra is missing due to his recent injuries from a fall at his home in New Jersey.

Congratulations to the new inductees.
